Course Objectives

  • Discuss how hormones effect bone metabolism and who is most at risk for developing osteoporosis.
  • Review the role of calcium, vitamin D, phosphorous and phytoestrogens in bone metabolism.
  • List current pharmacological therapies available for the prevention and treatment of osteopenia and osteoporosis.
  • Design a fall prevention program.
  • Design an exercise plan for strengthening the muscles of the upper back to reduce kyphosis.
