  • Autoimmune disease is a major women’s health issue. Autoimmunity is the underlying cause of more than 100 serious, chronic illnesses. Of the 50 million Americans living and coping with autoimmune disease (AD), more than 75 percent of them are women. This course reviews current research on current treatment for the more commonly diagnosed autoimmune diseases in women. Topics covered include Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, Rheumatoid arthritis, Systemic lupus erythematosus, Graves's disease, Inflammatory bowel disease, Celiac disease, Hemolytic anemia and Multiple sclerosis. Intermediate level.

Course Objectives:

  • Define autoimmune disease.
  • Identify the connection between inflammation & autoimmune diseases.
  • Explore the connection between women and autoimmune disease.

  • Identify current dietary treatment recommendations for inflammatory bowel disease (crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis).
  • List treatment strategies for hemolytic anemia.
  • Identify current dietary strategies for the management of celiac disease.
  • Identify tests and treatment strategies for hashimoto's thyroiditis.
  • Identify advanced therapies in the treatment and management of multiple sclerosis.
  • Review current research on the connection between nutrition and autoimmune disease.
