Course Objectives:
- Discuss key nutritional strategies to control blood glucose levels to minimize macrovascular and microvascular disease.
- Discuss strategies to adjust diet and insulin to manage blood glucose levels before, during and after exercise.
- Review pathogenesis of macrovascular and microvascular disease.
- Differentiate between type 1 and type 2 diabetes.
- Explain the pathogenesis of type 1 diabetes.
- State the role of vitamin D in the pathogenesis of autoimmune disease.
- Identify the research on the gut microbiota and autoimmune disease.
Learning Outcome: At least 80% of class participants will score 70% or greater on course post-test.
