|
Course Description & Information:
- An increasing number of data demonstrate the utility of a ketogenic diet in a variety of diseases such as obesity, metabolic syndrome, cancer, neurodegenerative diseases and diabetes. The ketogenic diet is recognized as an effective treatment for pharmacoresistant epilepsy but emerging data suggests that ketogenic diet could be also useful in Cancer, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, Insulin disorders and some mitochondriopathies. Data supports the use of the ketogenic diet with select autoimmune diseases as well. Although these diseases have different pathogenesis and features, there are some common mechanisms that could explain the effects of a ketogenic diet. These mechanisms of how a ketogenic diet can be used are explained in this seminar.
