The Hip: Key to Back & Leg Pain
Course Description & Information:
- This course is designed to provide an overview of hip anatomy and discuss
related pathology. It will entail discussion and description of evaluation and
recognition of muscle imbalances and their relation to compensatory action
leading to injury in the low back and lower extremity. The course will
describe various exercises to address these imbalances in an effort to
provide a more positive outcome for these patients. Intermediate level.

Course Objectives:
- Review and discuss basic hip anatomy.
- Discuss and describe CAM and Pincer lesions of the hip.
- Discuss basic evaluation of the hip.
- Describe muscle imbalances & their relation to back and lower extremity
injuries.
- Define dormant butt syndrome.
- Describe & discuss exercises and stretches to address muscle imbalances
around the hip.
- Discuss the role of the gluteus maximus in motion control and shock
absorption of the lower extremity.
Learning Outcome: At least 80% of class participants will score 70% or greater on course post-test.
