Course Description & Information:

  • Stress is a physical and emotional reaction that people experience as they encounter changes in life. Long term stress may contribute to digestive disorders, headaches, sleep disorders, pain and other symptoms. Stress may worsen asthma and has been linked to depression, anxiety, and other mental illnesses. Relaxation techniques help to reduce the effects of stress and reduce pain. Some examples of relaxation response techniques are autogenic training, biofeedback, deep breathing, guided imagery, progressive relaxation, and self-hypnosis. This course is designed to review relaxation techniques and the supporting data linking their role in reducing stress and pain management.
