Course Description & Information:
- This course will provide the participant with a template to return the post surgical shoulder back to the popular, but stressful, exercise of bench pressing. It will describe all aspects of a Bankart lesion, its definition, mechanism of injury and its surgical repair versus non operative outcomes. A progression from post operative, to sub acute and into the advanced rehabilitation with its guidelines will be discussed. The later stages will focus on the pushing progression with the ultimate return to bench pressing. Course Objectives:
- Define and discuss the Bankart lesion.
- Discuss mechanisms of injury, signs & symptoms of the Bankart lesion.
- Discuss operative vs. non operative management.
- Discuss 6 keys to rehabilitation shoulder instability.
- Discuss guidelines and phases of post surgical Bankart repair rehabilitation.
- Provide & discuss exercise progression from subacute to return to bench pressing.
- Review proper set up for the bench press exercise.
Learning Outcome: At least 80% of class participants will score 70% or greater on course post-test.
