Science of Weight Loss & Weight Managment
Course Description:
- Obesity is a serious, chronic disease that can have a negative effect on many systems in your body. People who are overweight or obese have a much greater risk of developing serious health conditions, including heart disease, diabetes, cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, and joint disease. The causes of obesity are complex. There are many interrelated factors, such as genetics, lifestyle and how your body uses energy. This seminar provides an in depth review of current data on obesity along with the metabolic and hormonal drivers that play a role in the dietary management of the obesity epidemic. In today’s environment, appetite is a powerful driver of our behavior and we need to understand how the brain and gut regulate our appetite to be able to control it. This is an intermediate course that covers the brain-body connection of the science of appetite and weight loss. Attendees will learn about the different systems that govern appetite and behavior as well as the hormones that are involved in regulating metabolism, and what can be done to improve our metabolism, lose weight and control our eating behavior. Participants will learn the evidence-based research into the role of diet, exercise, behavior modification, drug therapy and bariatric surgery in controlling and preventing the obesity epidemic thru weight loss and weight management.
