Renal Nutrition Course Description & Information:

  • The following topics will be covered in this course:Acute Renal Disease, Chronic Renal Disease, Dialysis, Causes of Renal Disease, GFR and Stages of Renal Disease, Laboratory Tests, Key Nutrition Guidelines for Renal Disease (KDOQI guidelines), Predialysis, CKD, HD, PD, CAPD, Medications and Supplements, Other Kidney Disorders. Kidney Stones.

Course Objectives:

  • Describe the clinical symptoms of renal disease.
  • Identify laboratory tests regularly used to monitor dietary compliance in dialysis patients.
  • Contrast and compare the medical nutrition therapy recommendations for chronic renal failure, hemodialysis, and peritoneal dialysis.
  • Name at least two dietary recommendations for those with kidney stones.
  • Distinguish between treatment plans for acute and chronic renal disease.
  • List medications and dietary supplements that are used to aid in preserving renal function.
