Osteoporosis: Strong Bones, Better Posture

Course Description & Information:

  • This book explains the pathogenesis of osteoporosis, current treatment options and exercises to build and maintain bone health. Over 60 specific Pilates exercises that have been shown to be beneficial for those with osteoporosis are shown with a detailed description of each exercise. Modifications for each of the Pilates exercises with props (when needed) will be reviewed. A comprehensive review of current medications currently approved for treatment and prevention are covered along with alternative therapies that may have some potential benefit. Dietary recommendations for building and maintaining bone are covered.

Course Objectives :

  • List risk factors for osteoporosis and understand how each effects bone loss.
  • Learn strengthening and balance training exercises for fall prevention.
  • Establish an exercise plan for an individual who has osteoporosis based on current research findings.
  • Learn exercises that aid in fall prevention and help to improve balance and reaction time.
