Mosquito Borne Diseases Course Description & Information:

  • Mosquitoes cause more human suffering than any other organism -- over one million people worldwide die from mosquito-borne diseases every year. Not only can mosquitoes carry diseases that afflict humans, they also transmit several diseases and parasites that dogs and horses are very susceptible to. This course will cover History, Transmission, Signs/Symptoms, Diagnosis, Treatment and Prevention of the following: Yellow Fever, Dengue, Chikungunya, West Nile, Zika, and Malaria.

Course Objectives:

  • Identify the types of mosquito borne diseases.
  • List environmental changes that may result in increasing importance of mosquito borne diseases.
  • Define the potential role of mosquitoes in spreading disease.
  • Identify signs, symptoms, diagnosis and treatment of the most common mosquito borne diseases, including yellow fever and malaria.
  • List common prevention techniques to reduce the risk of mosquito borne diseases.
