Course Description & Information:
- Fluid requirements for an individual will depend on health status, environment and exercise patterns. Ensuring proper hydration is critical for all individuals for all circumstances. This course covers fluid recommendations ranging from those critically ill to the elite athlete. Electrolyte balance is critical to hydration. Guidelines for electrolyte requirements are reviewed along with the current research on electrolyte and fluid balance.

Course Objectives:
- List fluid and electrolyte balance guidelines for before, during, and after (recovery) exercise.
- Identify hydration strategies to prevent hyponatremia.
- Identify the health consequences of dehydration and how they impact activity.
- List key electrolytes for maintaining fluid balance.
Learning Outcome: At least 80% of class participants will score 70% or greater on course post-test.
