2-hour On-Demand: COVID-19 & The Flu

Course Description & Information:

  • Influenza viruses and Coronaviruses cause respiratory infections in humans and other animals. These viruses have similarities, but also differ from each other significantly. Though both types of virus infect the respiratory tract, they utilize different receptors, have different genomic makeups, and display differences in their lifecycles. This presentation will look at these two virus types, and highlight their similarities and differences – both among the viruses, and the effects they have on the human body. How can they be differentiated? Can you tell which virus a patient may have without a nasal swab? What types of immune responses do humans mount, to defend against these viral infections? Are there different prognoses for patients with these infections? Can a patient be infected with both at the same time? This course explores the science to answer these questions.
