Course Description & Information:

  • MConnective tissue disease refers to a group of disorders involving the protein-rich tissue that supports organs and other parts of the body. Examples of connective tissue are fat, bone, and cartilage. These disorders often involve the joints, muscles, and skin, but they can also involve other organs and organ systems, including the eyes, heart, lungs, kidneys, gastrointestinal tract, and blood vessels. There are inherited disorders of connective tissue as well as autoimmune connective tissue disease. This webinar will focus on autoimmune connective disorders including polymyositis and dermatomyositis, rheumatoid arthritis, scleroderma, sjogren’s syndrome, systemic lupus erythematosus, vasculitis and mixed connective tissue disease.

  • Define autoimmune disease.

  • List environmental factors that contribute to Autoimmune connective tissue diseases and strategies to modify these risk factors.
  • Identify current treatment options for each of the autoimmune connective tissue diseases.
