Bone, Joint & Back Health

Bone, Joint & Back Health Course Description:

  • Arthritis is the leading cause of disability in the United States today and osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis. About 24 million adults are limited in their activities from arthritis, and more than 1 in 4 adults with arthritis report severe joint pain. By 2040, an estimated 78 million (26%) U.S. adults ages 18 years or older are projected to have doctor-diagnosed arthritis. Approximately 1% of the population suffers from rheumatoid arthritis, over 1.3 million Americans. Psoriatic arthritis and gout are forms of inflammatory arthritis and are associated with severe pain and disability. Osteoporosis is the most common chronic metabolic bone disease, which is characterized by increased bone fragility. Common fragility fractures include the hip, spine and wrist. One in two women and one in four men over the age of 50 will have a fracture related to osteoporosis in their lifetime. About 80 percent of adults experience low back pain at some point in their lifetimes. It is the most common cause of job-related disability and a leading contributor to missed work days. This course introduces attendees to the latest research on arthritis, osteoporosis, osteopenia and low back health. Individuals will learn the latest evidence-based research on current treatment and prevention options for each of these health conditions. Level - Intermediate.
