The Hip & Core: Keys to Back & Leg Pain
Course Description:
To succeed in this changing environment, evaluation must be more definitive and treatment interventions
must be functional and customized to meet the demands of the patient. This course will provide
therapists with the tools to do just that.
This course will consist of lecture and “learn by doing” lab. Hip and core anatomy, function and
assessment will be reviewed. It will further enhance the participants ability to recognize muscle imbalances
and their relation to compensatory action (in the integrated link system) which leads to injury in
the low back and lower extremity. Functional rehabilitation will be defined and discussed and a wide
variety of exercise modalities will presented, analyzed and practiced. This course will provide you with
the ability to choose and progress, or regress, functional exercise for the treatment of back, hip and leg
pain.
The review of theories such as the role of gravity, ground reaction, momentum and biomechanics as
they relate to human movement will greatly enhance your ability to apply exercises which produce the
most effective outcomes to improve posture, movement efficiency and overall muscular performance.
Participants are encouraged to bring a foam roller, (2) 5 lb dumbbells and a 3 ft theraband or equivalent.
Participants do not have to exercise nor bring exercise equipment to receive credit for the course.
Participants will have the opportunity to practice all exercises along with modifications that are taught.
