What is a Weight Loss/Weight Management Online BootCamp?
This is a 6-week comprehensive weight loss/weight management program which provides the knowledge, tools and motivational skills that have been proven to work for long term success. The course is taught online for 1 hour each week followed by a 30-minute question/answer session (attend the additional 30 minutes on week five and receive 7 live credit hours for the course). All courses are recorded for those who miss a night and the test can be taken online for a course certificate.

Dr. Ginger Schirmer, PhD, Rd has been ...
Dr. Ginger Schirmer, PhD, RD has been in the nutrition/fitness industry for over 20 years. She has written over 80 medical education courses on topics including diabetes, cardiovascular disease and weight loss/weight management. Dr. Schirmer has been an invited nutrition expert on television, national radio and a nutrition expert for magazines and newspapers including the Dallas Morning News. Dr. Schirmer has her MS in Exercise Physiology and is a certified Pilates and Yoga instructor. In addition to lecturing, she teaches workshops on exercise and fitness for all levels of individuals.

What is included with the program?
Each participant receives:
- Access to six 1-hour online classes along with the 30-minute question/answer session.
- The 250 page + comprehensive course manual that includes all the information and worksheets needed for a successful weight loss/weight management program. The manual will be sent the week before the course begins. Those registering the week before the course will receive the first week's materials by email to have the materials until the course manual is received.
- Over 16 weeks of printed menus at different calorie levels.
- A grocery store guide.
- A holiday eating guide.
- 3-hour home study course titled Nutrition for Optimal Health.
- A dietary supplement guide.
- 7 hours live credit hours: 1-hr CE credit for each week attended live online (total 6 credit hours for the program - can receive 7 live credit hours by attending weeks one and 5 additional 30-minutes) - a course evaluation will be completed at the end of each session and a certifcate will be given for each session. All surveys and certificate distribution are automated. Credit is prior approved for nursing professionals, dietitians and dietary technicians and pharmacy professionals.

What is taught each week?
Week 1: Acquiring the tools to begin a successful weight loss/weight management program
Topics to be discussed include:
- Carbohydrates – what are "good" carbs and "bad" carbs.
- Dietary fiber – tools for increasing the fiber in the diet to aid in appetite control.
- Dietary fats – understanding the different types of fats and learning how to get more omega-3 fatty acids in the diet.
- Protein – determining the right amount to have in your diet and the best sources for optimal health.
- How calories work for weight loss and how to begin to modify the diet to see weight loss.
Week 2: Navigating your way through the grocery store
Topics to be discussed include:
- Reading a nutrition label: Understanding what the Nutrition Facts Panel really means.
- Key ingredients to watch out for and how they can impact your health.
- An aisle by aisle tour of what to look for in a grocery store. Learn which are the best foods to buy and what are the less expensive choices.
Week 3: Planning meals & Dining out
Topics to be discussed include:
- Success comes when we know how to make smart food choices. Learn how to plan healthy meals that do not take lots of time or numerous ingredients.
- Learn how to modify any recipe to make it healthier and/or more cost effective.
- How to eat out at any restaurant and still eat healthy.
Week 4: Designing an exercise plan that meets your lifestyle
Topics to be discussed include:
- Setting up an aerobic exercise program that meets your fitness goals.
- How to design your own strength training program. Sample programs will be provided along with a theraband.
- Designing a home based exercise program. Sample programs will be provided.
Week 5: Nutritional needs for the Diabetic patient, Cardiovascular patient and weight loss goals for the overweight/obese child
Topics to be discussed include:
- Nutritional recommendations for managing glucose and insulin levels. Sample menu ideas will be provided.
- Nutritional recommendations for the cardiovascular patient. Sample menu ideas will be provided.
- Nutritional goals for overweight/obese children. Guidelines for weight loss/weight management for children will be provided.
Week 6: How to enjoy the holidays without gaining weight & a look at the dietary supplement industry
Topics to be discussed include:
- The holiday eating guide - tools for enjoying the holidays without gaining weight.
- Holiday recipe ideas and modifications.
- Weight loss products - how do they work and are they effective? A detailed guide to the supplement industry is provided.
