Spinal, Pelvic & Scapular Stabilization

Course Description & Information:

  • This course is focused on exercise to improve pelvic, lumbar and scapular stabilization. Topics to be covered include balance training, common SI disorders, degenerative disc disease, kyphosis, muscle imbalances, osteoporosis, pelvic floor training, and the multifidus and back pain. Principles from yoga, Pilates and functional exercise training will be utilized..

Course Objectives :

  • Design a program that will establish balance betweenabdominal,back and pelvic floor muscles for optimum core support.
  • Choose appropriate props to incorporate to improve proprioception and movement awareness.
  • Design a lumbar stabilization program that includes core training, balance training and cardiovascular conditioning.
  • Develop a program to strengthen the pelvic floor musculature to aid with urinary incontinence.
  • Choose exercises to strengthen the muscles of the upper back to aid in posture and reduce back and neck pain.

Target Audience: Physical therapy professionals (PT, PTA) and Occupational therapy professionals (OT, OTA).

Certificate Requirements:

  • Completion of course post-test (70%) and course evaluation.
