Liver Disease Course Description & Information:

  • The goals of this course are to review the following topics: Liver Anatomy and Function, Causes of liver disease, Symptoms, Diagnostic Tests, Liver Function Tests, Types of Liver Disease, Hepatitis, Alcoholic Liver Disease, Cirrhosis, Hepatic Encephalopathy, MNT Recommendations for Liver Disease, and Non Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease.

Course Objectives:

  • List diagnostic testing available for liver disease.
  • Identify key medical nutrition therapy goals for hepatitis.
  • Identify key medical nutrition therapy goals for cirrhosis.
  • List the macronutrient and micronutrient recommendations for hepatitis, cirrhosis, and hepatic encephalopathy.
  • Name at least two causes for Non Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease.
  • Explain at least two treatment recommendations for Non Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease.
